Children & Bikes
A bike is your child's first vehicle, and you are the driver education teacher.
Don't make the mistake of selecting a bike that is too big for your child, thinking
that he/she will grow into it. Learning to ride an oversized bike is extremely difficult
and the risk of falls and collisions increases.
You may think your child is safe because he or she rides around the neighborhood.
Think again. Most serious bicycle crashes occur on quiet neighborhood streets. This
is especially true for young children.
Children under age nine should not ride their bikes in the street, and they should
always be supervised. Sidewalks can be dangerous. Drivers pulling in and out of
driveways may not look for children riding bikes.
